MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are my email server settings?
The following settings are needed in order to send and receive e-mail:

User Name: username@yourdomain.com
Password: Supplied at set up. Contact support if you lost your password

Incoming Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.com *
Outbound SMTP Server: Contact your ISP for this setting.

* If your e-mail address ends in @ctsinternet.net, your incoming mail server is mail.ctsinternet.net

Excess Cyber does not provide outbound SMTP mail service, however, most all ISP's provide SMTP as part of your service with them.
Do you supply outbound mail SMTP service?
Excess Cyber does not provide outbound SMTP mail servers as part of our normal service.

In order to send e-mail from your account, please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to obtain the outbound SMTP server address as most ISP's provide this service.

Excess Cyber will provide SMTP service on a special request basis only. If you require this service because your ISP will not provide it for you, please contact our office directly. Access to SMTP service is approved on a case by case only.

Mail list users: SMTP service is provided automatically for the use of sending list messages.
What FTP Clients do you support?
You may use any FTP client with our service.

All PC and Mac based programs are compatible.

We provide account settings for your FTP account for use with your non-dos based programs. We do not support the use of DOS or command line based FTP.

To obtain these settings, please see our Account Information section on our main support page.
How do I transfer my domain to your service?
You may use several methods to transfer your domain to our service.

1) Contact our customer service department.
2) Select the option on our on-line ordering system to move your domain (new accounts)
3) Submit a change order request from our on-line tools (existing customers)

Some interaction may be required on your part to complete the transfer depending on the registrar and the method in which your domain is managed. If additional interaction is required on your part, our customer service department will send detailed instruction on how to complete the order.
I'm registering a domain myself. What information do I need?
You are more than welcome to register your own domain name. In order to do so, you will need to input or tell your registrar our DNS server information.

PRIMARY NAME SERVER
Name: NS0.DNSEXCESS.COM IP: 218.234.13.3
Name: NS1.DNSEXCESS.COM IP: 218.234.13.5

Some name registrars offer "vanity" or "managed" services giving you greater control over services like e-mail and other DNS features. If you use these features, you should contact our customer service department to discuss this prior to registering your new domain. Our customer service department will be able to give you the necessary network information to assist you in setting up your new name.

Excess Cyber can register your domain name for you at a discount price. Contact our sales department if you would like more information on Excess Cyber Name Registration.
I sell items on auction sites, can I host my images with you?
No.

Files hosted on your web server are for use by your web site only. Auctions generally receive a large volume of visitors. Every time a visitor views your auction, a request would be made to our servers for the image. This creates a higher than normal volume of traffic on our servers and affects the over all performance for all of our customers.

There are many free services on the internet that are in the business of hosting auction images and generally include auction management tools as well for free or a small monthly fee.

Accounts found hosting images for auction purposes may be immediately suspended or cancelled without notice or refund as this violates our terms of service agreement.
Do you support Active Server Pages and PHP?
Yes.

Our servers are either hosted on the Linux-RedHat servers platform running Apache or NT servers running IIS 5.0.

Though we support the use of active server pages and PHP scripts on our servers, we do not support the running, installation, or trouble shooting of such scripts.

We will, however, assist you with certain required information for you such as absolute paths, etc.
What types of database support do you offer?
Our servers will support the following database formats:

1) Microsoft Access Driver
2) Microsoft Excel Driver
3) Microsoft DBase Driver
4) Microsoft Visual FoxPro Driver
5) Microsoft Text Driver (cvs & txt)
6) SQL

The use of ODBC does not come standard on all servers. Some accounts may require an upgrade in order to use odbc. DSN-less connections may be run without support from Excess Cyber.

The use of database on our servers is supported, however our support staff is not able to assist you with the programming or setup up of your database and connections other than direct path information.

To set up an ODBC connection, please contact our customer service department.
What E-mail clients does your service support?
You may use any POP3 or IMAP enabled client to check and manage your e-mail.

Some of the most common programs available are Microsoft's Outlook & Outlook Express, Netscape Messenger/Mail, Eudora, and many others.

In order to use an IMAP client, please submit a support ticket online to support for this request. Please include the e-mail address that requires IMAP access.

In addition, some of our hosting packages come with I-Mail web access to read and send e-mail through any web browser. You may access your I-mail feature at http://yourdomain.com:8383.

If your email account is not web access enabled, please contact customer service to add this feature. You may also do this using our on-line tools.
